Roots of Embervault is a top-down pixel-art soulslike RPG by Ruyui, set in Embervault — one of the founding cities of the Ruyui universe. It runs on Abstract Chain with onchain randomness powered by Proof of Play and is published by YGG Play.
Roots of Embervault is the flagship game of Ruyui, the Abstract-based animation and gaming studio. It is a real-time pixel-art RPG where players protect the village of Embervault, uncover lore through quests and NPCs, fight monsters for runes and loot, and explore an expanding world set in the founding age of the studio's original universe.
The core loop ties together six systems: explore quests, real-time combat, resource gathering (wood, ore, herbs), brewing and cooking for temporary buffs, smithing to maintain equipment, and a rune-based character progression system at the Old Temple. Builds are entirely player-driven — spending runes shapes a unique character rather than following a fixed level track.
Gear, potions, and crafted items feed a player-driven open market. Abstract Runes earned in combat can be burned for onchain rewards, creating a participation-driven economic loop. Season 0 introduced a speedrun leaderboard with wave-based monster challenges. Onchain randomness is powered by Proof of Play.
Roots of Embervault is developed by Ruyui, the studio founded by Petek and Yan (@RuyuiStudios). The game is published by @YGGPlay (Yield Guild Games Play), which provides launchpad distribution and community access across the APAC region while Ruyui retains full IP ownership.
On October 15, 2026, Ruyui Studios said Roots of Embervault will "start fresh" on Ronin, relaunching there "in the coming weeks" as Abstract shuts down on December 15. The studio said the new launch is built around a more balanced economy, a PvP marketplace live from day one, an expanded skill tree and a new game mode with a recurring prize pool, and that existing players will get free access. Ruyui said it is coordinating with the Ronin team and will announce the launch date once it is confirmed.
The game's move is separate from the Ruyui NFT collection's, which is migrating to Ethereum mainnet (see /tags/ruyui). The October 17 registration figure in Ruyui's announcements, 1,057 of 7,000 (15.1%), counts Ruyui NFTs registered for that Ethereum migration. It is not a token-supply figure and does not describe Roots of Embervault.
