Team1 Africa is the regional African chapter of Team1 (/tags/team1), the Avalanche Foundation's global community and builder programme. It consolidates Avalanche country chapters across the continent into a single regional network, operating from its own account while remaining part of the global programme coordinated by @AvaxTeam1.
How it is organised
The chapter sits a level above Team1's country chapters rather than replacing them. Individual national chapters β Team1 Nigeria (/tags/team1-nigeria) among them β keep their own language, culture and operating style, while Team1 Africa provides a shared regional identity and a layer for cross-border coordination. Team1's programme describes its chapters as the delivery layer that translates a global programme into local context.
What it does
Its stated remit spans developer workshops and technical education, hackathons, stablecoin adoption initiatives, university and student programmes, founder support, community meetups, and creator initiatives. Cross-border collaboration between builders in different African countries, and pathways into the wider Avalanche ecosystem, are named priorities.
Why a regional layer
The gap the chapter says it addresses is connection rather than activity. Developers in different countries working on similar problems β cross-border payments, reaching customers that banks overlook β have had limited visibility into each other's work, because programming was previously run independently by city-level and national teams.
Where it sits
Team1 Africa is one of several regional and country chapters in the Team1 network, alongside Team1 LatAm (/tags/team1-latam) and chapters in Asia, Europe and the Americas. The chapter list is explicitly open rather than closed.
