What Iris is
Iris is a telecom-focused settlement network that runs on its own dedicated Avalanche Layer 1. Rather than asking carriers to replace existing systems, Iris connects an operator's identity, billing and distribution stack to modules for advertising, payments, commerce and settlement.
What Iris does
Iris positions itself as financial infrastructure for mobile operators. Carriers integrate their existing subscriber identity and billing rails, then draw on Iris modules to add revenue-generating services — advertising, settlement reconciliation and consumer financial services — without replacing telecom infrastructure they already run.
The ALVA app
ALVA is the consumer-facing mobile application the Iris network supports. It is described as letting subscribers browse, stream, shop, message and pay bills, with carrier integration meaning some of that activity does not draw down a user's mobile data allowance. Iris reports that ALVA's stablecoin module handles transaction settlement and operating reserves for its first carrier.
Network and backing
Iris launched with a 43 million commitment from Balesia Group, a family office with telecom operations across the Americas. Running a dedicated Avalanche L1 rather than a shared chain is presented as a settlement, operational and compliance choice.
Carriers and reach
VIVA, a licensed mobile operator in Bolivia with a growing footprint in Mexico, is the first carrier live on the network. Iris has said it holds agreements with operators representing tens of millions of subscribers across several countries, with expansion aimed at Latin America, Africa and Asia.
