About Duper
Last updated Jun 6, 2026
Duper is a 5-player free-for-all social strategy game on Abstract, built by Curiosity Research Inc. (Curio). Players combine economics, diplomacy, and betrayal across a 20-minute session to earn Duper Gold and claim victory.
What is Duper?
Duper blends mechanics from chess and TFT (resource building, tech progression), Catan (real-time trading), Among Us (social deception), and Poker (card play) into one compact session. It is inspired by the social-manipulation genres of Kaiji, Liar Game, and Diplomacy. The result is a game with no fixed Nash equilibrium — every table reshuffles the winning line.
Gameplay
Each session seats exactly five players in a free-for-all. Players gather three core resources (coins, cards, keys), grow their economy, advance across five unit types and three tech branches, and negotiate trades through private chat, quick messages, voice, and emojis. Alliances form and break by the minute; betrayal is a first-class mechanic. A session runs roughly 20 minutes.
Game Modes & Economy
Duper operates with Duper Gold as its in-game currency. Ranked mode (2 Gold entry) is the competitive ladder; Casual mode (0.1 Gold) suits practice; Custom rooms allow private parties; and the weekly League mode (10+ Gold entry) hosts higher-stakes tournaments. A free Tutorial and Practice-vs-AI mode lower the barrier for new players.
Team & Backing
Duper is developed by Curiosity Research Inc. (Curio), whose GitHub organisation is curio-research. The game is listed on Steam (wishlist, app ID 4542140) and is live in beta on Abstract with a planned full release in late June 2026.
