Igloo to Close Abstract, Refocus on Pudgy, NFTs and $PENGU
Igloo closes Abstract Dec. 15 to focus on Pudgy and $PENGU; ~350M PENGU, a fifth of Abstract-side supply (<1% of circulation), bridged within 5h of the news.

Igloo Inc said on Oct. 6 that winding down Abstract lets it "consolidate its personnel and resources" behind Pudgy Penguins, Pudgy NFTs and $PENGU. CEO Luca Netz wrote about two minutes later that "all of @IglooInc's focus" now goes to those three. Abstract, the chain Igloo built, closes on Dec. 15.
What Igloo says it lost, and why it stopped
Netz credited Abstract with building "the Portal and AGW," onboarding "major global brands" and amassing "over 300 million transactions." He wrote that Igloo bought Frame in the summer of 2024 to build "the blockchain for consumer crypto," and that it lost "tens of millions of dollars over two years" without finding product-market fit, held back by a missing DeFi ecosystem, thin liquidity, little institutional crossover and high costs. Igloo, he wrote, "could no longer justify taking from the Pudgy Penguins business." He wrote that Igloo could have launched a token or pursued an ICO but decided against it. The Block carried Netz's loss and token comments, and Decrypt the Dec. 15 shutdown.
Netz's figures leave one question open. Decrypt reported in July 2024 that Igloo raised more than $11 million, led by Founders Fund, to build Abstract, a month after buying Frame. Netz wrote that, "unknown to most," Igloo had funded Abstract over the last 18 months; he did not say how much of the "tens of millions" came from that raise and how much from the Pudgy Penguins business.
The numbers around the posts
CoinGecko's $PENGU page showed, as of October 7, 2026 (about 01:03 UTC), a price near $0.00917, a market capitalization of about $576 million (rank 108) and 24-hour volume of about $210 million; the price was down 4.3% on the day. The hourly series has the token at $0.00940 at 19:00 UTC on Oct. 6, 32 minutes before Abstract's post, and $0.00910 at 23:00 UTC, a 3.2% decline. Over the same hours ether rose 0.2% and bitcoin was flat. Four hours cannot separate the announcement from the wider market, and CoinGecko's data shows the token was already down about 8% over 14 days and about 87% below its Dec. 17, 2024 high of $0.0684.
$PENGU also has a footprint on the closing chain, and holders have started bridging it off. CoinGecko lists contracts on Solana, Abstract, Ethereum and four other networks. Descout read the Abstract one (0x9ebe...cba62) on Abstract's public RPC. Total supply was 1,757,021,701 tokens at 18:34 UTC on Oct. 6, before the announcement, and 1,406,764,620 at 00:46 UTC on Oct. 7, a drop of about 20%. Before the news, the Abstract contract's supply was about 2.8% of $PENGU's 62.9 billion circulating supply; the bridged tokens were about 0.6% of it. Bridging moves tokens to another chain; it is not a sale. The contract's event logs show 618 transfers off Abstract between 19:32 and 00:46 UTC totaling about 350 million tokens, roughly $3.2 million: about 318 million to Solana and 31 million to Ethereum. The same logs show about 0.6 million sent in the hour before the posts and 14.0 million in the 17 hours before that. They were sent from 280 different wallet addresses; about 290 million went through two contracts called by 207 and 69 different wallets, and one address sent about 60 million itself in 135 transfers. Neither Netz's post nor Igloo's article says what holders should do. Abstract's Migration Hub lists PENGU on Abstract and on Solana among its supported tokens, the contract is configured to bridge to Solana, Ethereum, BNB Chain and HyperEVM, and Abstract says funds not bridged by Dec. 15 become inaccessible.
The NFT side is smaller. CoinGecko's Pudgy Penguins NFT page, which lists the collection on Ethereum, showed, as of October 7, 2026 (about 00:47 UTC), a floor of 3.37 ETH (about $9,080), up 8.7% in 24 hours and down 2.1% over seven days, on 69 sales and 221 ETH of volume. The all-time-high floor was 36.33 ETH on Dec. 17, 2024, which puts the Oct. 7 floor about 91% lower in ETH terms. Priced at the floor, the 8,888-piece collection is worth about $80.7 million, roughly one-seventh of $PENGU's market cap. Igloo's own article describes a funnel that starts with products and content, moves to $PENGU, and treats the NFTs as "the deepest level of participation".
One on-chain claim spread that evening. At 20:05 UTC on Oct. 6, @CirrusNFT posted that a "fresh wallet funded with $1,000,000 at the time of this announcement started sweeping penguins." Descout checked the chain. The post does not name the address; the token IDs in its screenshot all went to one wallet, 0xb972...2F97. That wallet held nothing until 19:34 UTC, then received 0.1 ETH, and at 19:37 UTC received 373 ETH, about $1.0 million at roughly $2,690 per ether, both after the Abstract and Igloo posts and both from an address Etherscan labels "Kraken: Hot Wallet 2," an exchange withdrawal wallet; the label shows the ether came out of a Kraken account but does not show whose account it was. From 19:43 to 00:24 UTC the wallet bought 24 Pudgy Penguins NFTs, against the 69 sales CoinGecko counted over its trailing 24 hours. The record shows a buyer acting after the news was public; it does not show who controls the wallet or why it bought.
How the refocus is being read
Among the 20 highest-ranked quote posts of Netz's post that X showed at about 00:07 UTC on Oct. 7, Descout counted nine favorable to the refocus, eight describing lost money, time or trust, and three mixed, skeptical or neutral. The tally is small and not a random sample.
On the favorable side, @buyerofponzi wrote "No more liquidity or attention fragmentation," and @ByzGeneral said Pudgy's time and attention had been split between Abstract and $PENGU. On the other side, @MickaPenguins wrote "I don't think I'll ever trust Luca again," and @miketweetstaken wrote "2 years of my Life Wasted." Some split the difference: @ChrisJourdan called the news disappointing but respected a shutdown before an ICO or TGE, and @Carlitoswa_y said it was fine to try new things and fail, but that none of it made them optimistic about Pudgy or $PENGU. The losses users describe are their own claims, and Descout has not verified them.
What comes next, with dates
Pudgy Penguins' public Luma calendar, read at about 00:49 UTC on Oct. 7, lists events in India and Lagos on Oct. 17, Beijing on Oct. 22, Shanghai on Oct. 28 and Dubai on Nov. 15. It also listed three Singapore events: Inside the Igloo on Oct. 7, 10:00 to 14:00 UTC, a TOKEN2049 retail and community evening; the private Pengu Rally Lounge with Bitkub on Oct. 8; and a third on Oct. 9.
The refocus follows an earlier closure. Pudgy Penguins shut down Pudgy Party, a mobile game co-developed with Mythical Games, on June 12 to put resources into Pudgy World, according to NFT Plazas and Decrypt's Spanish edition. Pudgy launched that browser game in March, and both outlets say its in-game items can be minted as NFTs on Abstract. Igloo's article says it wants to go deeper on what is working "rather than going wider". Earlier coverage: LINE FRIENDS in Seoul and the Pengu World Tour.
What would confirm or cut against it
- $PENGU left on Abstract. Neither Igloo post addresses the Abstract contract, whose supply stood at 1.41 billion tokens at 00:46 UTC on Oct. 7. Guidance specific to it from Igloo or Pudgy, and how much supply remains on the contract as Dec. 15 approaches, are the two readings to track.
- Pudgy World items. NFT Plazas and Decrypt say the game's items can be minted as NFTs on Abstract. Neither Igloo post says what happens to them, and Descout found no later post from the Igloo, Pudgy Penguins or Pudgy World accounts that does. A migration notice for those items before Dec. 15 would show how far the consolidation reaches into Igloo's own presence on Abstract.
- Staffing detail. Igloo said it will "consolidate its personnel and resources" without saying how many people or which roles. A stated headcount, or a statement on what happens to the Abstract engineering and ecosystem team that Abstract says will help projects migrate, would make that line measurable.
