Pudgy Penguins' first week after Abstract: licensing and retail
Vibes announced 200 Pudgy and Lil Pudgy NFTs licensed for its Set 4 cards on Oct. 7, and Pudgy appeared at Walmart's New York Comic Con booth on Oct. 8. On Oct. 9 Pudgy announced a Shanghai Huddle for Oct. 17.

On Oct. 6, Igloo said it was closing Abstract. CEO Luca Netz wrote: "Starting today, all of [Igloo Inc.]'s focus will go towards taking Pudgy Penguins, Pudgy NFTs, and $PENGU to the next level." We covered that announcement on Oct. 8. This piece records what Pudgy Penguins itself posted in the days after, and which of it was already in motion before Oct. 6. The posts show licensing, retail and holder events. No source says any of them changed because of the Abstract decision.
Announced: holders' art licensed into a card game
On Oct. 7, Vibes TCG posted: "Introducing the 200 pudgypenguins & [Lil Pudgys] licensed for Vibes Set 4." The Pudgy Penguins account quoted it with "Congratulations to all the licensed Penguins." On Oct. 8, Vibes announced Set 4 as "Table For Two" with the line "Coming late Q4 2026."
The news is the licensing, not the game. Neither post says how the 200 were chosen. OverpassIP's listing titled "Vibes TCG set 4" fills in part of the picture. It describes Vibes as the official Pudgy Penguins trading card game designed by Orange Cap Games, which it names as licensee. The listing shows 245 assets requested, an estimated budget of $100 per asset and 1,469 assets submitted when we read it on Oct. 10. Holders apply through a "Submit Proposal" button. The listing's submission deadline was March 13, 2026, seven months before the Oct. 7 announcement. OverpassIP's home page says holders "can submit their NFTs with OverpassIP to be considered for licensing opportunities given by collections or brands." On Oct. 7, before Vibes' post, OverpassIP's bot account, which Pudgy reposted, wrote "Deal complete! Orange Cap Games is moving forward with Vibes TCG set 4 for NFTs."
The listing's license agreement makes each holder the licensor and Orange Cap Games the licensee. Section 5.1 gives the holder "a one-time, fully paid up, upfront licensing fee of $100 United States Dollars, to be paid in USDC." Section 5.3 has the holder "irrevocably" waive "any and all rights to royalties." Neither the Vibes nor the Pudgy post mentions these terms.
Appeared: Walmart's booth at New York Comic Con
On Oct. 8, Pudgy Penguins wrote: "Today, Pengu makes its NY Comic Con debut alongside [Walmart]. Find us at the official Walmart booth at this year's NYCC." The "debut" is Pudgy's description. The post's one photo shows a sealed Vibes TCG promo card, "Afternoon Breeze," held up in front of the convention sign.
On Oct. 5, Pudgy said "Pengu is now live at Kung Fu Tea nationwide, bringing Pudgy Penguins into the beverage category." In a second post that day it said the "Afternoon Breeze" promo card "is only available at Kung Fu Tea during our activation." Neither post says how a card Pudgy called Kung Fu Tea-only came to appear in its NYCC photo, and the NYCC post does not say what the Walmart booth carried. The account ST_McFly, which Pudgy reposted on Oct. 8, wrote that Pudgy was displaying "their exclusive holiday plush bouquet with [Walmart] as well as their Little Treats blind boxes." On Oct. 9, Pudgy said it "was featured on [Walmart]'s official NY Comic Con stream." No source says when the booth was arranged.
Announced: Shanghai, and a calendar full of Asia dates
On Oct. 9, Pudgy Penguins announced: "Pudgy Penguins are coming to Shanghai! Join the Huddle on October 17th for Pengu Blooming Shanghai, alongside [Deepcoin], [CBID], [Proxima], and Figurobot as we take over a historic 1990s Shanghai salon." A reply in the thread offered "an afternoon of networking, a live jazz band, and good company." The event page lists Pudgy Penguins as presenter and Symphony Young as host. It describes stamp-collecting activities redeemable for merchandise and a chance to "meet fellow Pudgy holders and the local community." Registration required host approval, and the page showed no address.
Shanghai is not a new city for the brand. On Sept. 30, the Chinese-language account pudgypenguinsCN invited fans to a Huddle on Oct. 1 at the LINE FRIENDS flagship store in Xujiahui, Shanghai. Our Seoul report covers that collection.
Pudgy's Luma calendar, read on Oct. 10 with each event's local date, listed four Singapore events on Oct. 6 to 9 (Solana Huddle, Inside the Igloo, Pengu Rally Lounge, FREAKY PENGU). It also listed entries dated Oct. 17 for Shanghai, India and Lagos, a Shanghai meetup on Oct. 18, Beijing events on Oct. 23 and 24, and a Dubai event on Nov. 15. Several showed only "To Be Announced" for location.
Teased: "one country at a time"
On Oct. 7, the account posted a video with the text "Pudgy Penguins are taking over Asia, one country at a time." The text names no country. The calendar entries are in Singapore, China, India, Nigeria and the UAE, and no source ties the video to any of them. The tease had not been confirmed as of Oct. 10.
What the week shows
Netz's statement gave the reason for the shift: Igloo had funded Abstract for 18 months, and "we could no longer justify taking from the Pudgy Penguins business." The week's posts show that business doing what it already did. Vibes Set 4 licensing closed its submissions in March. Kung Fu Tea launched the day before the Abstract announcement. A LINE FRIENDS Huddle in Shanghai was announced for Oct. 1. No source says when the Walmart booth or the Oct. 17 Huddle was arranged. The posts are the brand's licensing and retail track in public view, and they cannot show whether the refocus changed it.
Of the other two items in Netz's sentence, Pudgy NFTs appear in the week's posts in at least two ways: through the Vibes licensing of holders' art, and in an Oct. 18 event that Pudgy, in the same Shanghai thread, said was "exclusively for our holders" of Pudgy Penguin and Lil Pudgy NFTs. None of the Pudgy posts from the week concerns $PENGU or announces anything specific for it.
Still open: whether the holders named in the Oct. 7 Vibes post were actually paid the listed fee, and how the 200 were chosen from the 1,469 submitted; whether the Afternoon Breeze card in the NYCC post was offered at the booth; and which countries the Oct. 7 video post refers to.
