Bunya launches Blupets, an onchain pixel-pet collection on Ethereum - Analysis and insights

Artist Bunya (bunya_eth) has launched Blupets, a pixel-pet NFT collection on Ethereum mainnet, as the flagship drop of his fully onchain Blupix universe (blupixapp). He rolled it out over several days in mid-June 2026, narrating each step himself rather than running a conventional PFP mint — "I'm a storyteller and an artist," he wrote, "and gonna do thing my own way."

This piece consolidates the launch: what shipped, the lore and reveal, how the burn-to-evolve Merge works, the traction Bunya reports, and what he says is next — with each beat tied to its source.

What Blupets is

Blupets is a collection of onchain pixel "pets" that lives entirely on Ethereum. On its OpenSea collection page (listed as Blupets, Verified), the project describes itself plainly: "Blupets are onchain pixel pets from the Blupix universe. Reveal, merge, and evolve them into new forms. Over time, they can grow into agentic NFTs." That last clause is the ambition that sets it apart from a static PFP set — the pets are framed as assets that change over time, not fixed JPEGs.

The collectible-pet format has deep roots on Ethereum: CryptoKitties, the 2017 breed-and-collect experiment that famously congested the network, established the template of unique, combinable onchain creatures. Blupets sits in that lineage but swaps breeding for a burn-and-merge evolution loop and a pixel-art aesthetic.

One clarification the launch makes necessary: Blupets is a new project on Ethereum, distinct from AbstractioBunya's earlier pixel-art collection on the Abstract chain. Same artist, different collection, different chain. Blupets belongs to Blupix, not Abstractio.

The lore and the reveal

Blupix wraps the drop in a story rather than a roadmap. Per the collection's own description, "After the Genesis Blupix Block collapsed, 8,192 Mystery Blocks scattered across the chain," and "only 8,192 reveals will ever happen" — a hard, onchain-enforced supply (OpenSea currently lists 8,191 items, with one block held back). Each block, the lore continues, "awakens as one of eight colors. Soon, colors will collide. Merge is coming."

The reveal itself is deliberately flat. "There is no rarity to the blocks," Bunya posted ahead of it. "There is no specific traits tied to specific IDs. They're all equal now. Traits will roll randomly on reveal." In other words, nothing is pre-assigned to a token ID; traits are rolled at reveal time with onchain randomness, so every pre-reveal block sits on equal footing. He added that the blupixapp account would carry the lore "in a story telling way" rather than the usual mint templates.

The Merge mechanic and the Bluprint tool

The eight colors are not just flavor — they are the input to the Merge, the collection's evolution mechanic. To support it, Bunya shipped a preview tool called Bluprint: "a simple preview to help you plan your Merge," he wrote. "Pick two colors, explore the possible evolution path, and choose the aesthetic you want for your Blupet."

The Merge is a burn-to-evolve loop, and the numbers tie straight back to the eight-color lore: "To reach a final form, you'll need 8 NFTs of the same color and burn 7 of them." Collect a full set of one color, sacrifice seven, keep the evolved survivor. Why bother? Bunya leaves it to holders — "It's up to you. All onchain activity matters in my world." Bluprint lets a collector model that evolution path before committing any tokens to an irreversible burn.

Early traction

A day into the launch, Bunya reported strong volume. "Y'all drove 100 ETH in volume in under 24 hours," he wrote. "Happy 100ETH volume to those who celebrate." That 100 ETH figure is Bunya's own self-reported number, not an independently verified statistic — treat it as the creator's claim.

Independent OpenSea data offers a separate read. As of this writing the marketplace lists Blupets across 2,076 owners, with a floor around 0.022 ETH and roughly $245k in seven-day volume — a meaningful spread of holders for a days-old drop, though marketplace figures move and this is a single snapshot.

What's next

Bunya has signalled two threads beyond the mint. The first is the platform layer: "gonna share APIs for builders in the next few days, because Blupix is fully onchain and we will build a lot of tools on top," he wrote, adding that a builder group already exists. Bluprint, on this reading, is the first of many tools rather than a one-off. The second is the still-pending Merge itself — the OpenSea description says "Merge is coming," so the evolution loop the collection is built around has yet to go live.

The timing is no accident. Bunya tied the rollout to the pudgyukraine community event in Kyiv — part of the city's mid-June crypto calendar around Ukrainian Blockchain Weekdeploying the Blupix site from the road: "Website is done, gonna deploy it from Kyiv, so I'm on track with schedule." It is the second time he has shipped around that event; in a quoted earlier post he noted the first was back in November 2025, and called launching blupixapp two days before this one "a challenge."

For now, the launch is a collection plus a planning tool, with the headline mechanic — and the builder ecosystem — still ahead.

Coverage consolidated from public posts by bunya_eth and blupixapp, the OpenSea Blupets collection page (chain, floor, item count and owners — verified independently), and the project's own lore. The 100 ETH first-day volume figure is self-reported by the creator.
