Migrating Kabu NFTs From Abstract to Ethereum Before the July 10 Deadline
Kabu freezes its NFT collection on Abstract at 5pm EST on July 10 -- holders must move Kabu NFTs to an EVM-compatible wallet before the snapshot to receive an automatic Ethereum airdrop.

Kabu is a 7,000-piece NFT collection set in "Sunset City," built by Joe Compitello and Josh Chapman (kabu.xyz). Kabu launched on Abstract in December 2025, telling holders at the time that it picked the chain for gasless transactions and mass-market onboarding. On July 1, Kabu announced it is freezing that collection on Abstract and moving it to Ethereum Mainnet, with a hard deadline of July 10. Every current Kabu holder is affected, regardless of when they minted or bought in.
This is an actionable checklist for holders who need to be on Ethereum by that date — what to do, what happens automatically, and what Kabu still hasn't clarified.
How to migrate before July 10
Kabu's process has one holder-side action, then nothing:
- Move your Kabu NFT to an EVM-compatible wallet before July 10 at 5:00 PM EST. Kabu's instructions are explicit: "Move your Kabu NFTs to an EVM/ETH wallet ASAP." The same deadline — July 10 — is repeated across Kabu's posts.
- Do nothing else once your NFT is in an EVM-compatible wallet. At the deadline, Kabu freezes the collection on Abstract and takes a snapshot of every Kabu NFT sitting in an EVM-compatible wallet at that moment.
- Receive your Kabu automatically on Ethereum. Per Kabu, eligible NFTs are "automatically airdropped to the same wallet on Ethereum Mainnet. Same characters. Same token IDs" — the wallet address doesn't change, only the chain it lives on. Kabu states plainly that "no action required after the snapshot."
There is no separate claim portal, mint page, or second transaction to sign after the snapshot — per Kabu, "no action required after the snapshot" is the whole of the process. Be in the right kind of wallet at the right time, and the rest happens without you.
Costs and what you get
Kabu has not published a fee for the migration itself — the airdrop to Ethereum is automatic and, per Kabu's own posts, free of any additional charge or claim step. The only cost a holder incurs is the wallet-to-wallet NFT transfer needed to get a Kabu into an EVM-compatible wallet before the deadline, which Kabu has not itemized a gas estimate for.
What holders get in return is continuity, not a new asset: the same character and the same token ID, now live on Ethereum Mainnet instead of Abstract, delivered to the identical wallet address that held it at snapshot time. Nothing about the artwork, rarity, or numbering changes — only the chain the NFT lives on.
What Kabu hasn't said
Two real gaps remain in Kabu's own communication:
- What happens to a Kabu that's still in a non-EVM-compatible wallet when the snapshot hits. Kabu has not said whether there's a grace period, a later manual claim window, or whether that NFT is simply excluded from the Ethereum airdrop. Holders who wait past July 10 are migrating on unconfirmed terms.
- Whether Abstract's own default wallet already counts as "EVM-compatible." Abstract's wallet-linking documentation treats the Abstract Global Wallet and a separate Ethereum Mainnet wallet as two distinct, linkable objects — but Kabu's migration posts don't specify whether an NFT sitting in the Abstract Global Wallet itself satisfies the snapshot requirement, or whether holders need to move it to a standalone self-custody wallet first. Until Kabu clarifies, holders using Abstract's default wallet should treat a move to a wallet they know works on Ethereum Mainnet (e.g., one they already use there) as the safer read of "EVM-compatible."
