MEGAWEAPON Drops Biggest Update Yet: Weekly Seasons, $WEAPON Token Rewards, and Recovery Mode - Analysis and insights

megaweapon just dropped what creator alex-moody calls "the biggest update yet"—and it came after one of the most chaotic Thanksgiving weekends in the game's history.

The Abstract-based battle royale from CEDEN Network unveiled Season 03 changes this week, headlined by a new weekly competitive structure, a 10,000,000 $WEAPON token prize pool, and significant adjustments to how players earn XP on the abstract-portal.

Here's everything players need to know about MEGAWEAPON's latest evolution.

Weekly Seasons and $WEAPON Distribution

The centerpiece of Season 03 is a fundamental shift to weekly DEGEN Leaderboard resets, responding directly to player feedback requesting fresh competition cycles rather than extended seasonal play.

Under the new system:

  • 500,000 $WEAPON tokens are distributed weekly based on player performance
  • Every player banks their share based on total points scored relative to the season's aggregate
  • At Token Generation Event (TGE), remaining unclaimed tokens will be split by total accumulated scores from the entire event
  • Both weekly performance AND cumulative scoring matter for final allocations

Moody announced in Discord:

"We are getting a lot of feedback from players who want DEGEN to remain a weekly competition for a proportional share of the total pool, so that each week resets fresh... We are listening to your feedback as always."

Abstract XP Integration Changes

The update also addresses a significant surprise from Abstract's team regarding how XP is earned across the ecosystem.

MEGAWEAPON had originally designed its Tournament Leaderboard around the assumption that XP would be based on leaderboard placement. However, Abstract informed the team just days ago that XP is now earned exclusively through on-chain transactions—for MEGAWEAPON, this means purchasing Tournament Passes and DEGEN Credits. Moody explained:

"This is different than we expected and had designed around, and necessitates pretty significant changes to our overall game competition,"

Key changes resulting from Abstract's XP shift:

  • Tournament Leaderboard is gone
  • Tournament, Team, and Custom lobbies now score points (no multiplier) on the DEGEN Leaderboard, farming the weekly WEAPON pool
  • DEGEN Credit multiplier now starts at x2 (spend 1 Credit for x2, 2 for x3, and so on)
  • The good news: Every Pass holder can now farm the 10M WEAPON pool with every match played, no additional purchase required

DEGEN Credits remain the best method to boost scores and claim larger shares of the prize pool, but the barrier to participation has been lowered significantly.

UI Updates and New Features

Season 03 introduces several quality-of-life improvements:

  • Total Score (Season) and Total Score (All Time) now display on the DEGEN Leaderboard
  • Projected $WEAPON Earned updates in real-time on player profiles as scores change
  • $WEAPON balance appears in user profiles alongside DEGEN and Pass balances
  • Quickplay matches in Tournament and DEGEN modes now spawn only on small maps: Sunset Strip, Beech Buns, and One Small Step

Coming soon:

  • Team Modes
  • Custom Lobbies
  • New maps

Thanksgiving Weekend Chaos and Recovery

The rollout didn't go smoothly. A late-night deployment on November 26th broke game logic just as MEGAWEAPON's lead developer boarded a plane for Thanksgiving travel.

"We broke some things in a late night deployment before our Lead Dev hopped on a plane for Thanksgiving," Moody disclosed to the community early Wednesday. "Game is not working with the new game logic, we will fix it today."

Visual bugs also appeared—total scores displayed incorrectly, and only projected earnings were showing properly. Players who lost DEGEN Credits due to the error were directed to open support tickets for refunds.

By late afternoon, the team announced recovery: "WE ARE SO BACK! Game is live. We still have some UI fixes to do around the Total Score and Projected Season Earnings but the game and backend is all functioning properly!"

Moody confirmed that 1 day of Pass time would be credited to all holders as compensation, with DEGEN Credit refunds processing by Monday at the latest. "Devs are all on Holiday and this was already a shitshow for them on their day off," he added, acknowledging the team's holiday-weekend heroics.

By November 26th at 4:04 PM (CST), the final update arrived:

"Refunds and Pass time additions complete. Devs are chads."

What This Means for Players

MEGAWEAPON's Season 03 represents a maturation of the game's competitive infrastructure:

For Casual Players: access to farm $WEAPON through regular gameplay, with no mandatory purchases. Every match counts toward the weekly pool.

For Competitive Grinders: Weekly resets mean fresh competition every Friday, preventing early leaders from becoming untouchable. DEGEN Credits still offer multiplied scoring potential for those seeking maximum rewards.

For Abstract Ecosystem Participants: XP can only be earned through on-chain activity (Pass and Credit purchases).

The Bigger Picture

This update demonstrates both MEGAWEAPON's ambition and the realities of live-service Web3 game development. The team navigated Abstract's XP policy change with 48-hour notice, pushed a major infrastructure update during a holiday weekend, recovered from a broken deployment within hours, and still managed to ship one of the most requested features: weekly competitive seasons.

As Moody told Eureka News previously: "We are not super concerned about the state of the chain today—it's more a long term bet on the consumer funnel being created by Luca and the team with Pudgy Penguins."

That long-term vision now includes 10 million $WEAPON tokens waiting to be earned by players willing to show up and compete. Weekly seasons reset every Friday—get in there.

FAQ

Q: How do I earn $WEAPON tokens? A: Play matches in Tournament or DEGEN mode. Your weekly score relative to total player scores determines your share of the 500,000 $WEAPON weekly pool.

Q: Do I need to buy anything to participate? A: All Pass holders can now farm $WEAPON with every match. DEGEN Credits provide score multipliers for competitive advantage but aren't required.

Q: What happened to the Tournament Leaderboard? A: It's been removed. All competitive modes now feed into the DEGEN Leaderboard for $WEAPON distribution.

Q: How do I earn Abstract XP through MEGAWEAPON? A: XP is earned through on-chain transactions—purchasing Tournament Passes and DEGEN Credits.

Q: Will I be compensated for issues during the update? A: Yes. All Pass holders received 1 day of additional Pass time, and DEGEN Credit refunds have been processed for affected players.
