Cambria Charter Traits Explained: Seven Traits, Odds and Mechanics
Cambria revealed traits for all 4,096 Founding Charters on Oct. 17; its docs set the odds at 3% for no affinity, 2% for five, and a 78% Human roll.

Cambria published its Charter Trait documentation on Oct. 16 and revealed the traits of all 4,096 Founding Charters on Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. ET (15:00 UTC). This guide explains what a Charter is, what each of the seven traits does, and how the odds are set, using Cambria's Charters docs.
What a Charter is
The docs define a Cambria Charter as "a collectible bearer asset that grants its current holder certain rights and privileges in the world of New Cambria." The Charter records traits of its original grantee. A player becomes "Chartered" by staking at least one Charter to the Crown Ledger and naming one as their primary. The docs say the primary Charter's traits apply as an overlay on the player's character, and that most trait logic reads only from that primary Charter. Players can stake several Charters, which matters for some traits, such as Affinity.
Players without a Charter can still play the core loop. The docs say they miss the Royal Favor and asset-drop yield, some perks, and access to the highest-level content, and that they hold "none" for every trait.
Cambria announced on Oct. 16 that the trait docs were live and the reveal would follow the next day at 11 a.m. ET.
The seven traits
The docs say traits are rolled at reveal, after the mint. The exception is Standing, which is fixed by mint allocation and known beforehand. The docs add that most traits could still be redesigned or rebalanced, that only Voyage and Standing will never change, and that traits cannot be re-rolled "at the moment."
- Voyage. The fleet cohort a Charter arrived with. All 4,096 Founding Charters are Voyage I, and the docs say later Charters will be issued through the Land Office at high cost in Royal Favor and Silver.
- Standing. Viceroy (512 supply) or Citizen (3,584). A Viceroy holds every Citizen right plus administrative privileges in the Sovereignty layer. Standing can never be delegated, and the docs say its design is still early.
- House. Nine values: Warwick, Montblanc, Dover, Eyras, Thornhill, Bloodstone, Armagnac, Blackfort and Freeborn. For the primary Charter, the House sets character styling, NPC standing and a small coordination bonus with players of the same House. It also feeds City Dominance: each House earns influence in each city, and the leader at each epoch close holds the City Office, which the docs say unlocks better fee rates, specialty shops and Land Office priority for its members. Switching House mid-epoch revokes House utility until the next epoch.
- Home City. Where the settler is registered. The docs list reduced market and repair fees, more bank space and Land Office priority while in that city. The docs name Thorin's Peak, New Mortis, Capital City, Dreadfort, Mirewick, Driftmoor, Archon's Rest and Undocumented.
- Affinity. The docs' trait table says 20 roles. The Affinity section lists eight Martial (Swordsman, Axeman, Spearman, Duelist, Archer, Crossbowman, Magus, Chaplain) and eight Craft (Blacksmith, Prospector, Fisher, Alchemist, Tanner, Mason, Forester, Cartographer). Each Affinity carries a score up to 99.
- Passage. The docs list eleven backstory-hint values, or none: Debtor, Convict, Second Son, Zealot, Mercenary, Deserter, Widow, Heretic, Fortune-seeker, Pressed, Enigma. The docs say it does nothing mechanical at launch.
- Race. Human, Elf, Darken or Ghoul. A staked Charter of a race unlocks that race in the character creator, and the docs say it does not affect stats.
How the rolls work
The docs publish weights for two traits. Affinity count per Charter ("indicative weight"): 0 affinities, 3%; 1, 35%; 2, 35%; 3, 18%; 4, 7%; 5, 2%. Race: Human 78%, Elf 14%, Darken 6%, Ghoul 2%. House, Home City and Passage are each described as one value "rolled among options," with no weights given.
An Affinity score sets a character's maximum uncapped potential in that role. The docs say anyone can train any role, that the benefit appears at the competitive top end with sharply diminishing returns near 99, and that a low roll "will never nerf or debuff" a player's progression. Across all staked Charters, the Ledger takes the best score per role, and the primary Charter's score gets an extra boost. The docs say complementary Affinities across Charters raise potential in more roles, while duplicates do not.
Delegation
Per the Charters docs, a player with no Charters can lease one through "Tenancy," inheriting its rights except Viceroy standing. A sponsor can also supply both the Charter and the Energy a player plays with. Tenants cannot hold a Charter of their own, and a staked Charter cannot be sold until it is unstaked.
What the Oct. 17 reveal produced
The docs scheduled the reveal for Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. ET. Cambria's founder posted a revealed Viceroy Charter owned by holder marm5847 at 15:21:48 UTC, and Cambria's official X account reposted it at 15:23:29 UTC. The post by BEN.ZZZ, whose X bio identifies him as Cambria's founder, covers a Viceroy Charter with no affinities. Cambria's founder summarized the odds as "3% roll no affinity, 2% roll all five (polymath)," 2% Ghoul, 6% Darken and 14% Elf. Those figures are consistent with the weights Cambria published, but they come from Cambria's own founder and are not independent corroboration. The founder's post also states that "5% have no House (Freeborn) or Home City (Undocumented)," a figure the docs do not publish and that rests on the founder's post alone. We found no official distribution of the revealed 4,096 in Cambria's docs or posts.
What the docs leave unclear
- House, Home City and Passage have no published weights.
- The revealed Viceroy Charter in the founder's post shows Passage as "Orphan," a value the docs' list of eleven does not include.
- The Home City section's table has eight rows, but the trait table lists seven values without Archon's Rest.
- The trait table says 20 Affinity roles, but the Affinity section lists 16 (eight Martial, eight Craft).
- The Affinity text gives scores of "1 to 99" in one place and "0-99" in another.
- The trait table lists Ghoul as a Race value but uses Undead in its roll column and in the Race prose.
- Viceroy duties in the Sovereignty layer are described as early in design.
