Abstract Blockchain Winds Down as Igloo Inc. Pivots to Pudgy Penguins

Drafted by the Descout wire deskHow this was made

@LucaNetz announced on Oct. 6, 2026 that Abstract, the consumer-focused Ethereum Layer-2, is winding down, with all of iglooinc's focus moving to pudgypenguins, Pudgy NFTs and PENGU.

Netz said Igloo Inc. had been funding Abstract for roughly 18 months and that the company lost tens of millions of dollars over two years while building consumer products, assembling a team and onboarding major global brands without reaching product-market fit. He cited the lack of a DeFi ecosystem, insufficient liquidity, minimal institutional cross-over and prohibitively high costs as factors that stifled growth in the chain's strongest areas.

What Abstract built

Netz pointed to the chain's Portal and AGW wallet, partnerships with global brands, more than 300 million onchain transactions and a growing onchain ecosystem. Abstract opened its Portal hub at portal.abs.xyz in August 2026, and as recently as September 2026 the team was implementing ZKsync-recommended security upgrades.

The chain traces its origins to Igloo's summer 2024 acquisition of the Frame rollup team, with the stated goal of building a blockchain for consumer crypto. Abstract is an Igloo Inc. company, operating alongside sister subsidiary Cube Labs, which led the chain's engineering.

No token, no ICO

Netz said Igloo could have launched a token or pursued an ICO even after losing eight figures, but decided against it, arguing a token needs demand drivers and that launching one without conviction would have been a disservice to the community. He thanked Abstract's team and its community.

All Igloo resources now shift to expanding Pudgy Penguins, its NFT collections and PENGU.
