How Pendle yield markets on Coinbase tokenized stocks work on Base
Pendle listed GOOGLc (matures 24 Dec 2026) and NVDAc (7 Jan 2027) as yield markets on Base on Oct 16, with $20K in USDC LP incentives per pool. What PT, YT and LP mean here, and what is unpublished.
On Oct 16, Pendle wrote on X that Coinbase Tokenized Stocks "are now live as yield markets on Base," with two markets open: $GOOGLc maturing 24 Dec 2026 and $NVDAc maturing 7 Jan 2027. Pendle added "$20K in USDC LP incentives for each pool." Jesse Pollak quoted the post the same day, writing that "the integration of stocks" across Base's DeFi "continues." This guide explains how a Pendle market is built, what the two markets are, and which questions the published material leaves open.
Base lending against these tokens is covered in How borrowing against tokenized stocks works on Base, and the broader run of stock-related launches in Base's week: stock tickers, a Japan MOU and a pitch to chains winding down. This piece covers only the Pendle side.
What the token is
Base's tokenized stocks page says "Coinbase Tokenized Stocks are individual US company shares brought onchain, issued by Coinbase and backed 1:1 by shares held in regulated custody." The page says the product runs under Regulation S and is available only in eligible jurisdictions outside the US, and that users should review the prospectus and legal disclosures.
How a Pendle market works
Pendle's documentation defines the parts. All definitions below come from the Pendle glossary unless noted.
- SY (Standardized Yield) is a wrapper that takes a yield-bearing token and gives it a standard interface. Pendle's SY page says the SY contract "holds the deposited underlying asset and is the direct recipient of all accrued yield."
- PT (Principal Token) entitles the holder to the principal of the underlying, redeemable after maturity. Per the PT page, a PT trades at a discount to its accounting asset and converges to it at maturity; that appreciation is the fixed yield. PT holders "forgo all variable yield and points" generated by the underlying.
- YT (Yield Token) entitles the holder to the yield the underlying generates, in real time. Per the YT page, YT is worth $0 at maturity, and a YT buyer profits only if the average underlying APY ends up above the implied APY paid.
- LP tokens represent a share of a pool of PT and SY. Pendle's AMM page lists four LP income sources: PT fixed yield, underlying (SY) yield, swap fees, and PENDLE incentives.
- Maturity is the date PT becomes fully redeemable and YT stops accruing yield. At maturity an LP can exit the pool, redeem PT and claim rewards in one transaction, according to the same AMM page.
Pendle also documents external incentive campaigns: a protocol can fund rewards for a single market, and the Dynamic Incentives page says such campaigns "run from its start until that market matures." Pendle's stock post does not say whether the $20K USDC uses that mechanism.
The two markets
According to Pendle's market data as of Oct 17, both markets sit on Base and carry the categories "rwa" and "stocks":
| Market | Maturity | Implied APY |
|---|---|---|
| GOOGLc | 24 Dec 2026 | about 0.11% |
| NVDAc | 7 Jan 2027 | about 0.12% |
Pendle's docs say implied APY is the market's consensus on the underlying's future yield. Pendle's data lists an underlying APY of 0 for both markets as of Oct 17; the next section explains why that reading says little this soon after listing.
Where the yield comes from
Pendle's own docs describe YT as a claim on yield "generated by the underlying yield-bearing token." The material Descout read does not say where that yield originates for these two markets. As of Oct 17, Pendle's market data lists an underlying APY of 0 for both GOOGLc and NVDAc. The Pendle glossary defines Underlying APY as "the 7-day moving average yield rate of the underlying asset," and both markets were whitelisted on Oct 16 at 09:00 UTC, so a reading of 0 this soon after listing does not show what the underlying yields.
The same market data lists a yield range of 2% to 5.5% for GOOGLc and 2% to 5% for NVDAc, a PY unit of "GOOGL Shares" and "NVDA Shares" respectively, and an accounting asset scaled to 18 decimals (GOOGLc-scaled18 and NVDAc-scaled18). These are fields Pendle's market data lists as of Oct 17; the pages Descout read do not say how the range is set. The one concrete payout Pendle has announced is the "$20K in USDC LP incentives for each pool," which goes to liquidity providers, not to YT holders. Pendle's data separately shows an LP reward component for NVDAc, and the market lists PENDLE as a reward token.
What the sources do not say is whether stock-side events such as dividends reach the SY wrapper and so reach YT holders. Neither Pendle's post nor the pages Descout read describe that path. Treat any expectation of a built-in yield on these markets as unconfirmed.
Practical picture
- A PT buyer locks in the discount to the accounting asset until 24 Dec 2026 (GOOGLc) or 7 Jan 2027 (NVDAc), per Pendle's definition of PT.
- A YT buyer is exposed to whatever yield the underlying produces before maturity, then holds a token worth $0.
- An LP supplies PT and SY, earns swap fees and the announced USDC incentive, and can exit in one transaction at maturity.
Risks the sources state
- Pendle's docs state that PT holders give up all variable yield, and that YT is worth $0 at maturity.
- Base's page says the tokens are available only to eligible users outside the US and that legal disclosures should be reviewed before use.
- The Pendle docs pages Descout read contain no stock-specific risk disclosure for these markets.
Other places these tokens earn
Pendle is one of several venues. On Oct 13 Pollak wrote "earn 3% on your stocks" on Base, quoting a post about rewards on Coinbase stocks via Aave. Descout has not read the terms of that program.
What is not published
- Where, if anywhere, underlying yield on GOOGLc and NVDAc originates, and whether dividends flow through the SY wrapper.
- How the 20K USDC per pool is distributed, and over what period.
- Whether more maturities or stocks will be listed.
