Waifu Sweeper to Shut Down on August 1 as YGG Play Sunsets
Waifu Sweeper, the skill-to-earn Minesweeper-inspired game on Abstract published by @YGG_Play, announced on July 6 that it will be shutting down. The retirement comes as part of the broader sunset of YGG Play, Yield Guild Games' publishing arm.
According to waifusweeper, in-app purchases will be disabled on July 9, 2026, and the game will fully sunset on August 1, 2026. The team thanked the community for their support, acknowledging the emotional impact of the closure.
Waifu Sweeper, developed by Raitomira, launched on Abstract in January 2026. It combined classic Minesweeper logic with collectible anime characters (Waifus) and weekly leaderboards, aiming to reward puzzle-solving proficiency over luck.
Yield Guild Games (yieldguild) announced the YGG Play shutdown earlier, citing macroeconomic factors and the unit not being commercially sustainable. The Waifu Sweeper team pointed players to a blog post with details on rewards and timelines.
Players still holding assets or in-game progress are advised to review the blog for instructions before the August 1 shutdown.
