Base Card Spend Grows 14x Year-Over-Year to $259M in October

Crypto card spending on base reached a projected $259.1 million in October 2026, up roughly 14x from $18.45 million a year earlier, according to figures shared by Base lead jessepollak on Nov. 1, 2026.
The chart circulated alongside the post illustrates the twelve-month climb and puts October's total about 15% above September's, extending a run of sequential monthly gains in card volume on the network.
What the metric tracks
Card spend reflects transactions where users fund purchases through crypto-linked payment cards settling against balances held on Base, rather than holding assets idle. For Base — the Ethereum Layer-2 network incubated by Coinbase and built on the OP Stack — the figure is a read on how much real-world commerce is flowing through onchain rails. Base has no native token; gas on the network is paid in ETH.
The card numbers arrive amid a broader payments push on the network. Base and Coinbase, working with Shopify, have been building out a Commerce Payments Protocol, which Base said in late October 2026 had settled more than $42 million in payments.
What's next
Base has scheduled builder workshops around DevCon in Mumbai for Nov. 3-5, 2026, including a session on its B20 token standard, and plans to activate its Denim upgrade on Nov. 5, cutting block times to 200ms. Whether card volume holds its current pace through November is the number to watch.
