Anichess Opens Qualifier for Chance to Face Magnus Carlsen
Anichess, the web3 chess game on Abstract, is giving players a chance to face world champion Magnus Carlsen. The project announced an open qualification tournament that begins this week. Players can climb the leaderboard in Standard mode before a three-hour open arena on June 13. The top four players from that arena advance to a knockout round on June 14, and the winner earns the right to face @MagnusCarlsen on June 16.
Founded by @AnimocaBrands and built with chesscom, Anichess combines classic chess with spell-based mechanics. It is the flagship title of the Checkmate Ecosystem, powered by the upcoming CHECK token. The event is free, requires no download, and is open to players worldwide.
This marks the latest integration of a mainstream chess icon into the Anichess ecosystem, following Carlsen's prior involvement with the platform.
