Anichess Debuts Drag-and-Drop Controls for Web3 Chess Gameplay
Anichess (@AnichessGame) has enabled drag-and-drop controls for its Web3 chess platform, the team announced on September 2, 2026. The feature allows players to move pieces by dragging and dropping, a core quality-of-life upgrade for the spell-casting chess title.
Anichess is developed by Animoca Brands in partnership with Chess.com and endorsed by five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen. The game applies standard chess rules while adding a magic-formula system that introduces unpredictability and helps level skill gaps. In-game progress is tracked with M8 points, with the broader Checkmate Ecosystem powered by the CHECK token.
Built natively on Base, Anichess records in-game item ownership on-chain. The project has recently run tournaments, qualifiers, and special events featuring Carlsen, including the Magnus Cup, where a community champion won 300,000 CHECK in June 2026.
The drag-and-drop update is now available to all players as Anichess continues to refine its user experience. No further details on additional interface changes were provided in the announcement.
