Anichess Announces June 16 Event Where Players Face Magnus Carlsen

Web3 chess game @AnichessGame has revealed a special event on June 16 where four players will have the chance to face world champion @MagnusCarlsen. The top two competitors on the Standard leaderboard will earn direct entry into the Sunday knockout, bypassing the open arena. The remaining two slots will be filled via the open arena, which requires winning to qualify. The leaderboard will freeze on June 13 at 00:00 UTC, giving players until then to climb the ranks.

Anichess, incubated by Animoca Brands and built with Chess.com, blends classical chess with spell-based mechanics on the Abstract blockchain. The game is the flagship title of the Checkmate Ecosystem and will be powered by the upcoming CHECK token. The project has attracted over 100 million views across social platforms and has previously hosted Magnus Carlsen for other events.

With the leaderboard freezing this Saturday, players have a limited window to secure a direct seat. The open arena also offers a path for those outside the top two to earn a spot against the grandmaster.
