UAE Taps Avalanche to Power National Digital ID Vault

The United Arab Emirates is integrating Avalanche infrastructure into UAE PASS, the country's national digital identification system, avax announced on Sept. 14, 2026.

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (tdrauae) is working with Deca4 to bring Avalanche technology in as the infrastructure layer powering the UAE PASS Digital Vault. The Vault lets users access and share verified official documents, while blockchain is used to verify their authenticity and confirm they have not been altered.

UAE PASS serves more than 12 million citizens, residents, and visitors, providing a secure way to verify identity, sign documents, and reach thousands of government and private-sector services. The Digital Vault extends that system to official document storage and sharing.

Why it matters

National identity systems are among the largest-scale deployments a public blockchain can host, and the UAE PASS integration places Avalanche's verification layer inside a system already serving millions of end users. Avalanche, developed by Ava Labs, is a layer-1 network that positions itself around high-throughput, low-latency applications, with the Avalanche Foundation funding ecosystem growth and research.

The announcement did not disclose timelines for a full rollout, the migration path for existing UAE PASS users, or which specific Avalanche network components will be used for verification. Deca4 is named in the announcement as the integration partner alongside TDRA.

What to watch: whether additional UAE government services are folded into the Vault, and how comparable national identity programs in other jurisdictions respond to a blockchain-based authenticity layer operating at population scale.
