South Korea Moves Capital Markets Onchain via Avalanche Blockchain

South Korea is taking its entire capital markets infrastructure onchain, powered by the Avalanche blockchain, avax announced on Sep 4, 2026.
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) and the Korea Securities Depository (KSD) are laying the groundwork to bring stocks, bonds, and funds onchain, connecting the full capital markets stack from issuance and trading to clearing, settlement, and investor rights.
According to avax, South Korea is building toward a digital capital market where traditional securities can be issued, traded, and ultimately settled onchain. The initiative marks one of the most ambitious government-led tokenization efforts to date.
The move leverages Avalanche's subnet architecture, which enables customizable, high-throughput blockchain environments suitable for regulated financial infrastructure. No specific timeline for implementation was provided in the announcement.
This development follows a series of real-world asset (RWA) tokenization milestones on Avalanche, including the launch of a tokenized high-yield fund by Neuberger Berman in August 2026 and the formation of a payments collective with WisdomTree, Franklin Templeton, and others.
