Kona DeFi Weighs New Chain Expansion After Blockchain Outreach

Drafted by the Descout wire deskHow this was made

Kona DeFi says it has fielded inbound interest from multiple major blockchain networks seeking to host its protocol, and is weighing whether to bring its full stack to a new chain.

The omnichain consumer DeFi protocol disclosed the outreach in a post on 2026-10-07, describing the response as surpassing internal expectations. According to @KonaDeFi, discussions center on porting its "robust protocol set, economic systems and active user base" to an additional network.

The protocol did not name any of the blockchains involved, disclose terms, or provide a timeline. It said it is "exploring the best options" and would share more later.

What Kona already spans

Kona operates as an omnichain protocol. Its native token, $KONA, is an omnichain fungible token that moves across Abstract, Solana, and Robinhood Chain through a dedicated Kona bridge launched in July 2026. The protocol bundles trading, lending, volatility products, and yield into an interface aimed at mainstream users under a "DeFi for everyone" positioning.

Kona's home chain is Abstract, where it has leaned on gasless transactions and sub-second finality to make small trades and latency-sensitive volatility products viable, alongside Portal-based discovery for user onboarding. The protocol has also expanded to Solana via its Kona.gg app and activated protocol-fee staking on Abstract with rewards in ETH, USDC, and PENGU.

Any additional deployment would extend that footprint further. For now, no destination chain, structure, or go-live date has been confirmed — watch for Kona to name which networks it is negotiating with and on what terms.
