Base's Jesse Pollak Courts Chains Considering a Shutdown
Jesse Pollak, the lead at Coinbase-incubated Ethereum Layer-2 base, issued a public invitation on Oct. 6, 2026, to teams running chains that are considering shutting down, urging them to reach out about migrating instead.
In a post from his personal account jessepollak, Pollak framed Base as a lower-cost destination with a better end-user experience, listing three draws: access to a full range of tradeable assets, deep borrow and earn markets, and fast, cheap, trustworthy blockspace. He closed by saying Base wants to build with those teams.
The pitch arrives as Base has been steadily expanding what its network offers. On Oct. 5, 2026, the base account said 26 tokenized stocks tied to major global companies are now tradeable on the network. Base also activated its Cobalt upgrade on mainnet on Sept. 30, 2026, bringing Validity Transactions and B20 enhancements online.
Base is an Ethereum Layer-2 built on the OP Stack and incubated by Coinbase, which announced the network in February 2023 and opened mainnet later that year. It has no native token — transactions are paid in ETH — though the project has said it is exploring one.
The Offer
Pollak positioned Base as a landing spot for teams winding down their own chains.
No specific chains or deals were named in the post. What to watch for is whether any winding-down network publicly takes up the offer.
