Base Marks 3 Years With $5B TVL, $46T Stablecoin Volume
base marked the third anniversary of the Base network on Aug. 9, 2026, sharing a milestone recap that highlighted nearly $5 billion in total value locked (TVL), 46 trillion in stablecoin volume, and 90% of all x402 transactions.
Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2 network built on the OP Stack, opened to users in 2023 and has since grown into a major hub for consumer apps, DeFi protocols, and the emerging onchain agent economy. The 46 trillion stablecoin volume figure underscores the network's outsized role in onchain payments, while the x402 metric points to its leadership in agent-to-agent transactions. Earlier this summer, base reported that agents had spent over 52 million via the x402 protocol as of July 16, 2026.
The network is also expanding its ecosystem, having announced an Ecosystem Fund in early August that has already backed more than 30 teams. The anniversary post concluded with the message "still day one," signaling ongoing momentum for the network's builder community.
