Base App Rebrands as Coinbase Wallet in Consolidation Push

Base App is now Coinbase Wallet, according to an announcement from coinbasewallet on September 10, 2026. The base account amplified the rebrand with a short welcome message, signaling that the consumer-facing app built on Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2 network now carries the Coinbase Wallet name.

The change folds Base's consumer app into the Coinbase Wallet brand. In its announcement, coinbasewallet pitched the product around speed and unrestricted trading, describing an experience where users can "trade anything, anywhere, without asking permission."

Base is Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2 network, built on the OP Stack, incubated by Coinbase, announced in February 2023, and led by Jesse Pollak. The network has no native token; transactions are paid in ETH. Coinbase Wallet is the exchange's self-custody wallet product.

What to watch

The rebrand merges two previously distinct surfaces under one name, which could simplify how Coinbase routes users into onchain activity on Base.
