Avalanche's Helicon Upgrade Goes Live on Mainnet With Staking Overhaul
@Team1IND reported on 2026-09-23 that Helicon, Avalanche's latest network upgrade, is live on mainnet. The activation follows a Sept. 22 deadline flagged in earlier coverage of the upgrade schedule.
Helicon bundles five changes to the Avalanche network:
- Continuous execution for the C-Chain, Avalanche's contract chain, aimed at faster block processing
- Auto-renewing staking, which removes the need for manual re-delegation cycles
- A 48-hour minimum staking period, setting a floor on lockup duration
- Stronger validator requirements, raising the entry bar for network validators
- A new reward curve designed to reduce the pace of new AVAX issuance
The chapter framed the upgrade around three goals: more network performance, better capital efficiency and what it described as stronger economics. It also called Helicon one of Avalanche's largest upgrades to date and said it lays groundwork for further changes.

What to watch
With Helicon live, attention turns to how quickly stakers migrate to auto-renewing positions and whether the revised reward curve produces a measurable decline in AVAX issuance. Validators will also need to meet the raised requirements to remain active.
