Avalanche Marks Six Years Since Genesis Block With Network's Founding Message

On Sept. 9, 2026, Avalanche marked six years since its genesis block was minted. The official avax account commemorated the milestone by recalling the message written into the network's first block: “From Snowflake to Avalanche. Per consensum ad astra.”

The Latin phrase, roughly translated as “through consensus, to the stars,” nods to the Snowflake consensus lineage that underpins Avalanche's protocol. The genesis block, minted in 2020, launched the Avalanche mainnet era and laid the foundation for what has since grown into a multichain ecosystem supporting subnets and custom layer-1 chains.

Over the past six years, Avalanche has expanded beyond decentralized finance into institutional tokenization and real-world assets, with recent ecosystem activity including Hanwha Investment & Securities building a tokenization platform on the network and South Korea's capital markets moving onchain via Avalanche.

The anniversary post reflects on the network's origin rather than announcing new product features. The milestone lands just ahead of Avalanche Summit NYC, scheduled for Sept. 16-17, where the ecosystem is set to showcase its institutional and builder-focused roadmap.
