All Abstract Global Wallets (AGWs) are receiving a security upgrade on March 9, 2026, as announced by 0xCygaar, lead engineer at the Abstract blockchain. The upgrade leverages Privy's new Trusted Execution Environment (TEE)-based infrastructure and will be applied automatically across all AGW users.
Users who have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled on their wallets will need to manually approve the migration before the upgrade takes effect. No action is required for users without 2FA.
What Are AGWs?
Abstract Global Wallets are the native smart contract wallets powering the Abstract blockchain, an Ethereum Layer 2 network developed by Igloo Inc., the parent company of Pudgy Penguins. AGWs are central to Abstract's account abstraction model, enabling a more seamless onboarding experience for users interacting with apps on the network.
What Is a TEE?
A Trusted Execution Environment is a secure, isolated processing environment within a chip that protects sensitive data and operations from the rest of the system. TEE-based key management is considered a meaningful security improvement over traditional server-side approaches, as it limits exposure of private key material even to infrastructure providers.
Privy, a Web3 authentication and wallet infrastructure provider, recently launched TEE-based infrastructure support, which Abstract is now integrating directly into AGWs.
Users with 2FA enabled should expect a prompt to approve the migration when accessing their wallets.
