Maze of Gains Retires The Throne as Deed Season Closes at 7.6K Farmers

Onchain Heroes retired Maze of Gains' Throne mechanic on Sept. 24, rolling the 5% key cut that funded it into Bounty Gems' bounty pool — now 23% of every key, up from 18% — four days before Deed Season closed Sept. 28 with 7,591 players and 226,904 runs, about 19 times the players of its July playtest.

Maze of Gains Retires The Throne as Deed Season Closes at 7.6K Farmers - Market analysis

Onchain Heroes retired The Throne in Maze of Gains on Sept. 24 and rolled what had funded it — a 5% cut of every key — into Bounty Gems, the team wrote in its weekly patch notes and stats thread. The key split now reads 70% weekly pool, 23% gem bounty (up from 18%) and 7% to the team for game development, per the same thread. Bounty Gems were buffed to match: the drop chance on a boss kill rose from 12% to 15%, and the average Gem cut from 1.76x to 1.80x, onchainheroes said.

The same update put a clock on unsubmitted stockpiles. The thread's headline warned "Your Corn goes bad in the last 24h of Deed Season," and a reply urged "Turn your Corn & Eve in early - or they'll go bad!": in the final 24 hours, Corn and Eve items lose value every hour, from 100% down to 20%, across the Silo and the Raffle, and anything submitted before that window counts at full value, per the patch notes. The Deed Season guide adds that value locks in at turn-in and that "Decay targets stockpiles, not players still grinding": Corn per drop goes up every hour in that window to counter the decay, while Eve items get no such boost, per the guide. The patch also buffed an existing mechanic called Last Stand. Deed Season itself was an 11-day Maze of Gains x Yield Fields event onchainheroes opened Sept. 17 with 850 whitelist spots on the line for an upcoming Deed NFT mint.

The scale behind the shift

The weekly totals Onchain Heroes posted in the Sept. 24 thread were 71,249 runs, 3,043,709 keys burnt, a $2,130,596 weekly prize pool and $559,605 in Gem payouts to players, per @onchainheroes. NFT Playgrounds reported the week before the event arrived at 1,911 runs, 26,161 keys burned, an $18,313 weekly prize pool and $5,417 in Gem payouts — roughly a 116-fold jump in the prize pool. The next weekly post, on Oct. 1, listed 64,633 runs, 5,421,927 keys burnt, a $3,795,349 weekly prize pool and $1,325,318 in Gem payouts. Neither set of figures is a post-event baseline: the first was posted while Deed Season was running and the second three days after it closed. The key-split change is a five-point shift in the cut that funds Bounty Gems, applied to pools whose size was set by a whitelist race.

What Deed Season actually paid out

Maze of Gains is Onchain Heroes' "Abstract-based dungeon crawler," per BlockchainGamerBiz. Deed Season split its 850 whitelist spots between two systems, NFT Playgrounds reported when the event opened: a Silo worth 575 spots, ranked across two leaderboards — 400 spots split among the top 300 players by total Golden Corn stockpiled, and 175 spots ranked by the rarity of World's Eve items held — plus a 275-spot Raffle that turns spent resources into entry chances. The Raffle had not been drawn when the season closed: in its close-out thread the team said "the draw happens once final checks are complete," using a third-party seed it would publish so players could verify, with results "within 24 hours," per @onchainheroes. The same thread posted the Silo results, with the top Golden Corn finisher and the top Eve-items finisher each taking 7 spots. Later on Sept. 28 the team posted that the "final list of WL raffle winners have been drawn," pointing players to a public Google Sheet to check their wallets. World's Eve items could be bought outright on Maze of Gains' in-game Marketplace using VALOR — nine items were listed there ahead of the Silo competition, including Gas Shot, Gas Chug, Gas Slam, Gacha tokens, Jackalot Helmets and an Adventurer Mint Pass, per NFT Playgrounds — or earned by playing: fishing with Genesis Heroes in the Onchain Heroes idle RPG produces Eve Keys, which open World's Eve dungeon runs that drop World Seeds, which open Eve Caches containing the items themselves, also per NFT Playgrounds. Both systems permanently consume the Golden Corn and World's Eve items players spend into them, per the guide. The same rollout also opened Maze of Gains to non-AGW wallets — MetaMask, Rabby and Robinhood Wallet — letting players buy keys with ETH on Robinhood Chain, per NFT Playgrounds; the same report notes an Abstract Global Wallet-only account cannot receive a Deed, since the NFT mints on Robinhood Chain. Separately, Yield Fields' Sept. 14 thread said "1,000 guaranteed spots go to onchainheroes Ringbearers & Genesis Rings," per Yield Fields. Those 1,000 spots are a separate pool from the 850: the Deed Season guide linked from the team's Sept. 17 opening thread lists 3,333 total Deeds, "1,000 whitelist spots reserved for Ringbearers and Genesis Ring holders (not part of this event)" and "850 whitelist spots up for grabs in this event," per the guide.

The close, against the project's own prior numbers

Deed Season closed Sept. 28 after what onchainheroes called a 10-day campaign — "10 days. 7.6k farmers. 227k runs." — though the team's own opening post had put the same Sept. 17–28 window at 11 days; the two posts don't agree on the count. The more granular figures the team posted in the close-out thread — 7,591 players, 226,904 runs, 8,456,542 keys burned, $721,924 in marketplace volume, nearly 2 billion Golden Corn turned in and 100,690 World's Eve items turned in — are also reported by BlockchainGamerBiz, which cites the same team figures rather than an independent count. That dwarfs a July playtest of the game's 2.0 rebuild, the one earlier incentivized test with posted results among the sources cited here: it launched with 250 Arcade Keys on the line and closed out at 399 players and 4,651 runs (Descout's earlier coverage). Deed Season drew roughly 19 times the players and 49 times the runs — though the two events aren't a clean comparison: the playtest rewarded leaderboard performance with a fixed Arcade Key pool, while Deed Season was a whitelist race tied to an external NFT mint, a sharper incentive to grind.

Where the Deed sale stands

The close-out thread did give timing: "Deed details and sale info drop this week" and "Sale tentatively planned for next week," plus a wallet checker going live that week, per @onchainheroes. Yield Fields' Oct. 2 post, under the line "Deeds mint in 2 WEEKS!", laid out this schedule: Oct. 8, Deeds utility; Oct. 9, whitelist checker goes live; Oct. 11, Ringbearer snapshot; Oct. 12, guaranteed (GTD) mint; Oct. 13, public auction; Oct. 19, Deeds reveal, per Yield Fields' own post.

The same Yield Fields thread added a consolation tier. Seed Packs, to be airdropped at launch, go to players who missed a whitelist spot on the Silos: Corn board ranks 301–354 get four packs, 355–453 get three and 454–550 get one; Eve board ranks 151–159 get seven, 160–223 get three and 224–285 get one. Players with a whitelist spot on any account are excluded, and a player on both boards gets only the reward for their best rank, per the same thread. The team explained that Eve items were spent with no weekly pool attached, so the Eve board cost more to climb. In the close-out thread the team had framed seed packs as thanks to "top competitors" so they could "start farming on day 1," per @onchainheroes.

What's open, and what would confirm it

Abstract announced Oct. 6 that its chain shuts down Dec. 15, 2026, that users have until then to bridge assets off, and that its team will work with Abstract-based projects on moving to other chains, per Abstract's announcement and its Migration Hub. BlockchainGamerBiz calls Maze of Gains Abstract-based, and the team's Oct. 1 stats thread told players "claims go into your wallet on Abstract," per @onchainheroes. The Onchain Heroes and Yield Fields posts cited in this piece do not address where Maze of Gains goes from here.

What would confirm it: a team statement on where Maze of Gains runs after Dec. 15; whether the Oct. 12 GTD mint and Oct. 13 public auction open as scheduled for the 3,333-supply Founding Deed collection; what deed holders get from the "Deeds utility" item Yield Fields' Oct. 2 post scheduled for Oct. 8 but described only by that label; and whether The Throne, or a mechanic like it, reappears in a later patch, after its Sept. 24 retirement.
